My Story...

Here is my story. Right from the very start.

Would you believe me if I said that mearly 8 years ago I was too scared to even put my face in the water? Well, whether you believe it or not, it's the truth. I was in the first swimming stage for years and it was by complete luck and coincidence that one day, the teacher couldn't make it to the lesson so I had a cover teacher, however this cover teacher would change my story without even knowing it at the time. He got a mirror and asked me to look into it and swim along, then he slowly submerged this mirror under the water and got me to swim 5 metres underwater then asked me to touch my head and little me said "it's wet!" And that moment started my story as we know it today!

I moved lessons and moved up the stages until that teacher had to leave to go and pursue his dream of being a primary school teacher.

I switched swimming teacher and he suggested for me to come for a trial at the local swimming club which was obviously a big step up from my weekly swimming lesson. I was nervous at first and a bit indecisive but I decided that I would go for a trial because I had nothing to lose. 

I went for that trial and loved it an I am still in the same swim club to this day along with the same swim teacher that is now one of my coaches.

Along with my first year of the club I continued my swimming lessons and also completed Rookie lifeguard. I finished both of these as the COVID pandemic swept the country and put us out of action.

Due to COVID-19 my first swimming season and gala was in 2021! 

From then on I have loved and had a passion for the sport and this year after lots of hard work and commitment I made SE Regional Championships!

 

That is my story but it was not achieved overnight, it has taken hours of time in the pool and lots of hard work, commitment and dedication. Not just by me, but also by my coaches and especially my mum who has been there right from the very start! 

I am so grateful for all of the people that have been there every step of the way and I can't thank them enough!

What age did you start swimming?
  • I started competitive swimming at the age of 9 but I had my first season at the age of 11 due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Who are you raising money for?

I am Raising money for a charity called 'The Water Project' that provides water to countries in sub Saharan Africa that do not have access to clean water and sanitation.
